Protect Your Pet from Summer Heat

Keep Your Dog Happy and Healthy this Summer!

This summer is proving to be one of the hottest and driest ever! If Molly or Max could speak, here's what they would say:

  • Please watch me carefully for signs of heatstroke. Heatstroke happens when my body temperature rises above the average 102.5 F and can't be controlled by normal cooling processes, like panting. Warning signs that I'm in trouble include fatigue, vomiting, diarrhea, and, at the worst, confusion and seizures. If I show signs of heatstroke, get me out of the sun, wet me down with room temperature water and put me in front of a fan. Then call my doctor.
  • Please change my walking and playing routine to cooler times of the day.
  • Please don't spray water on my back. It makes me hotter. The water attracts the sun and this can actually burn my skin. Instead, put water on my chest, tummy and paws to help cool me down.
  • Please think twice before giving me a shave or trim. It may do more harm than good.
  • Please give me lots of water to drink and shade to lie in. It's tough wearing a coat in this weather. The rule of paw is, if it's too hot for you - it's too hot for me!
  • Please promise never to leave me in a vehicle - ever.
  • Please give me lots of cool treats to eat!

And above all (because I'm a superb jumper), please take me to Kamp K-9 for daycare and boarding. I always have a barking good time when I'm there.
